The International Baccalaureate at CGGS

An international education recognised by leading global universities

CGGS is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and authorised to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP). We are currently a candidate school for the Middle Years Programme (MYP). Our awarded IB education provides a curriculum framework that is broad, balanced, conceptual and connected, developing students into active, compassionate, lifelong learners.

Benefits of the IB Programme:

Nurturing inquisitive lifelong learners

The IB programmes develop inquisitive, knowledgeable and caring students, creating a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. Students are encouraged to become active and compassionate lifelong learners who empathise with others, and understand and embrace their differences.

Recognised internationally

The IB programmes are internationally renowned, and the Diploma Programme is recognised by all major tertiary institutions in Australia. CGGS is one of over 5,400 schools in 159 countries to offer an IB education.

Primary Years Programme (PYP)

The PYP is for pupils aged three to 12 years of age. It focuses on whole of child development both within the classroom and outside of it. Following its latest IB PYP Evaluation report in 2020, the Junior School was given 45 commendations and zero recommendations for its programme implementation – only the second time this has happened in the history of the IB Asia-Pacific.

Middle Years Programme (MYP)

CGGS is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). The MYP offers a balanced programme of study designed to meet the developmental needs of students aged 11 to 16 years of age. At this age, students naturally begin to question the world around them, seeking to make connections between their classrooms and the real world. Students can expect to engage with robust disciplinary and interdisciplinary inquiries. A love of life-long learning is nurtured through the intentional teaching of ‘learning to learn’ skills, which encourage students to think critically, creatively and to direct their own learning. Engagement with service learning further connects the classroom with the real world. All students are expected to demonstrate an appreciation of the importance of understanding the nature and needs of their communities, and consider how to best address these needs.

Diploma Programme (DP)

The DP is for students aged 16 to 19 years of age. Designed as an accessible and holistic pre-tertiary experience, the DP is highly recognised locally and internationally by leading universities. Over the course of two years DP students study a broad range of subjects (including languages, humanities, sciences and mathematics) and are assessed both internally and through external final examinations. There is a strong emphasis on inquiry-based and interdisciplinary learning.
